Look at the pictures
of the new pup!
Go to the Sara Kathryn pictures from December 2000.
Just a few Sara
Kathryn pictures from October 2001.
See the Callahan kids. This page has a couple of pictures, and is linked only to the page that you are now reading. Notice that the reference is "../index.html".This is a relative reference.
The Callahan kids directory listing.
This is a demonstration of how HTML files (the file format that is normally used for web pages) can be accessed from a web browser, even when there is no web server involved. One thing to keep in mind is that all references (hyperlinks) to linked documents should be relative, not absolute. This page has links to other pages on this fake web site. Some of those pages have links topages on this fake web site; they also have links to pages that are on real web sites.
Look at the pages here, and look at the source code (the raw html files). You will see that there is nothing real tricky going onhere. All of this works because the references are all relative. The files and directories that comprise the fake web site are all located at or below the directory which holds the document that you are now reading.
Take a look at some stuff about ethernet wiring. This page is linked to other pages on this fake website, and has a link at the end that will bring you back to this page. Notice that the reference is "../../index.html".This is relative reference.
Look at a review of a book that I am going to finish someday. Like the other book review, this one has no link back to the opening page, so it may impede easy navigation for web site users.
Take a look at a truly transparent GIF. Notice that if you change your background color, the image appears to float on the new color. If you want more info on tranparent GIFs try looking at the at the Creating Transparent Background Images page, or The Transparent/Interlaced GIF Resources Page.
